Job Description
An Accountant I/HealthWest under general supervision of higher level personnel, performs professional accounting duties following well-defined and standardized departmental procedures. An employee in this class prepares financial reports and records; balances accounts; conducts analyses of audit accounts requiring application of basic accounting principles. An employee in this class assists in training subordinate departmental personnel and performs other work related duties as assigned.
1. Possess an Associate Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Accounting, Business Administration, or closely related field;
AND Have a minimum of two (2) years increasingly responsible work experience in the accounting field.
OR Have a high school diploma or GED;
AND Have a minimum of four (4) years increasingly responsible work experience in organization accounting.
2. Possess a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Michigan Driver License within 30 days of employment.
3. Must have reliable transportation that may have to be used to carry out job duties of this classification.
Preferred but not Required
1. A course in coding or experience in billing/coding is desired.
2. Bilingual candidates highly desired.
3. Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders valued.
4. Individuals in Recovery and individuals with experience in Armed Services valued.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES An employee in this class performs generally sedentary work requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS An Accountant I/HealthWest generally works in an office setting.
EVALUATION CONTENT Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.
