RiskSpan seeks to recruit a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to serve as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to the Chief Executive Officer. As a key member of the executive management team, the CFO will be expected to play a significant role, both strategically and operationally, in driving the company’s rapid growth and will serve as a key strategic and financial advisor to the CEO, providing the analytical framework and business judgment necessary to evaluate various company initiatives. In addition to providing financial leadership in all aspects of the company including accounting, treasury, tax, risk management, budget, financial systems and financial reporting, and contracts, he/she will be responsible for creating visibility and maintaining high quality and high integrity relationships with the company’s investors, Board of Directors, and other third parties. This individual will facilitate the best and highest standard processes and procedures for the finance and accounting organization and the business as a whole.

The Chief Financial Officer will: 

  • Work as a strategic partner with the CEO and the management team to address opportunities for growth while maintaining discipline in cost management, financial management and reporting and capital structure. In addition, s/he will work with business unit executives to provide financial oversight and establish metrics to monitor performance.
  • Be responsible for the leadership and performance of the finance and accounting functions. Have responsibility for debt and equity offerings including strategic acquisition of capital as well as a strong knowledge and interest in accounting. Prepare the company’s financial systems, reporting and financial staff for growth.
  • Provide timely, accurate and useful information, forecasts, performance metrics and reporting for internal use and for the Board of Directors.
  • Serve as the company spokesperson on financial business matters, communicating regularly and effectively with the Board of Directors and serve as the primary interface to the audit committee.
  • Oversee the financial and reporting aspects and be capable of supporting the information needs of a growing, high-tech business.
  • Supervise the preparation of accurate financial reports including key performance metrics, external financial reporting and tax filings and the analysis of performance, variance and cash flow ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local requirements.
  • Be responsible for the measurement-based financial management throughout the business to ensure accurate planning, forecasting and reporting in support of business initiatives. Communicate performance gaps to ensure corrective actions are understood and implemented.
  • Be capable of rolling up her/his sleeves if necessary and be very comfortable with all financial and accounting details. Candidate needs to understand that given the size of the company today, a lot of hands-on budgeting, forecasting, and reporting will be required by the individual accepting this position.
  • Drive continuous improvement in areas such as expense management, financial analysis and reporting, system infrastructure and standardized business process with an eye toward streamlining and improving business performance. Work closely with all functions to promote the use of financial and business KPIs, reduce cost and improve performance to goals company-wide.
  • Instill a culture that emphasizes accountability and transparency among the finance team promoting a culture of building strong relationships with the executive team and departmental leadership.

 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the highest level of financial acumen and demonstrate the ability to establish and communicate a shared vision of the strategy and the future direction of the business. He/she will evidence effective influencing skills as well as the ability to quickly gain the respect of other members of senior management and the Board of Directors. The CFO will possess an “in the trenches” mindset. This individual will immerse him/herself in the business, engaging decisions with a strategic, business-centered orientation. An emphasis will be placed on individuals who understand and appreciate the importance of finance and accounting in supporting business strategies and decisions, and maintaining the integrity of the financial data while exhibiting the highest level of professionalism.

The ideal candidate will be evaluated on the basis of the following experiential and competency criteria:

  • Excellent track record and reputation as a CFO of a SaaS business, preferably in a similar industry such as Financial Services, or Capital Markets, who has scaled a company over a period of significant revenue growth.
  • Experience working in a venture capital or private equity portfolio company and/or led a company through a capital formation transaction and a liquidity event.
  • Experience managing financial responsibilities with foreign operations including dealing with regulatory and foreign currency matters.
  • A strategic, highly disciplined and flawless ethical approach to financial reporting and compliance; will be capable of quickly developing an understanding of the organization’s operations characteristics, business-drives and culture.
  • A track record of strategically and candidly advising CEOs and effectively interfacing with and providing thoughtful analysis for the audit committees, board members and other constituents
