BASIC FUNCTION
Assist the CLC Director and Director of Public Policy in advocacy efforts consistent with the CLC’s four public policy priorities (human life, religious liberty, human flourishing, and fair/just financial practices).
Requirements:RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS
1. Learn about the mission and work of the CLC.
2. Research public policy issues related to CLC policy priorities
3. Track and assist with proposed legislation using computer software
4. Occasionally attend legislative hearings and briefings
5. Assist in drafting articles, updates, and calls to action regarding CLC policy priorities
6. Occasionally attend meetings with legislators, legislative staff, and coalition partners
7. Attend CLC Commissioner meetings where public policy priorities are discussed
8. Work effectively to establish relationships with CLC staff.
9. Perform general clerical duties to include, but not limited to, processing correspondence, maintaining records, and responding to CLC ministry needs.
10. Maintain communication with CLC on project timelines, deadlines, and progress.
11. Prepare and proofread letters, memos, spreadsheets, and other correspondence accurately and timely.
12. Promptly answer phones, and respond to requests for information accurately.
13. Maintain compliance with the Baptist General Convention of Texas policies and procedures.
14. Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and regulatory requirements.
15. Perform other duties as required.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
NOTE: These requirements represent minimum levels to perform the job on a satisfactory basis. Candidates must have the ability to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the job.
1. Candidate must be an active member of a BGCT cooperating church during employment.
2. The ideal candidate is an undergraduate or graduate-level student or young professional with the ability to occasionally travel to the Texas State Capitol during the week.
3. Proficient ability to speak, read, and write English.
4. Ability to grasp, push, pull, carry, or otherwise manipulate objects; ability to perform tasks requiring action of muscles or groups of muscles and foot and/or hand-eye coordination.
5. Ability to speak clearly and make self-understood in face-to-face interactions; to articulate with accuracy on the telephone.
6. Ability to hear and receive verbal instructions, answer phones, and proficiently communicate in situations with some background noise.
7. Ability to concentrate on fine detail with some interruption; ability to focus attention on tasks for 45-60 minutes at a time continuously.
8. Ability to understand and relate to the theories behind several related concepts; ability to remember verbal and written tasks/assignments from a few hours to long periods.
9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, vendors, churches, committees, organizations, etc.
10. Excellent organizational skills; ability to multi-task.
11. Professionalism in the workplace to include professional and accurate communication with others.
12. Commitment to Christian principles and teachings both professionally and personally required, with an understanding and commitment to Baptist distinctives.
13. Proficient working knowledge and ability to use various office software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Google email, and Internet skills.
