*Position Description*
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Rochester is actively recruiting for a Clinical Medical Physicist. We are seeking a motivated individual possessing well-developed clinical skills to work at our main center (Strong Memorial Hospital) and off-sites. Clinical responsibilities include quality assurance of linear accelerators and CT-simulators and other clinically related quality assurance tasks as well as participating in complex clinical procedures. Interest in clinical research and education for professional growth is a plus.
The Physics Section is a unit in the Department of Radiation Oncology and covers 8 facilities in the Rochester, NY region including the main facility located at Strong Memorial Hospital. The Physics Section currently consists of 14 FTE physicists, 16 dosimetrists, 2 IT personnel, and one administrative staff. The department has 18 radiation oncologists, clinical support staff, research protocol staff, and grant staff. The department’s goals include excellent patient care, education, and clinically applied research in radiation oncology and physics. The facilities treat 3000 patients per year including pediatric patients on 12 Varian linear accelerators, a Philips Orthovoltage unit, and 1 HDR unit. A wide range of treatment modalities are offered including online adaptive therapy (Varian Ethos), SRS, SBRT, IGRT including intrafractional imaging and motion management (Varian and BrainLab), optical surface guidance (C-rad), thermal surface guidance (BrainLab ExacTrac Dynamic); TBI; HDR and LDR brachytherapy including HDR Prostate, GYN, prostate seed implant, Eye Plaques, Intravascular Brachytherapy, etc. We are an ABS training site for prostate HDR. Treatment planning and related software systems include Varian Eclipse, Velocity, Ethos, BrainLab Elements, Elekta Oncentra and Oncentra Prostate, and Varian Variseed. Our record and verify system is Varian Aria. Sun Nuclear SunCheck is employed for a comprehensive QA program.
Current research interests in our group include online adaptive therapy, SRS/SRT, artificial intelligence, radiomics, 4D dose and image reconstruction, lung treatment plan optimization, data mining etc. In the Physics Section, each physicist is expected to work on their clinical duties and projects with a mindset of ownership, while cross-covering other duties and collaborating with others. The Section is vibrant and growing, and is run by the principles of fairness, transparency, and clinical prioritization. We have a CAMPEP-accredited medical physics residency program and we are currently preparing for a MS graduate program that is expected to open in 2024. This new-hire physicist is expected to contribute to clinical education in these programs.
*Qualifications*
Minimum requirements include a M.S. degree with 3-5 years of experience. Candidates should be Board Certified (or Board Eligible). Ability to obtain NYS licensure or permit to practice is essential. A post-offer health assessment is required. The faculty appointment rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s accomplishments and experience.

The referenced pay range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries. Alignment of clinical incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
