Construction Engineer / Construction Representative – Process Mechanical and Electrical (Washington, DC)

Role Description

We are seeking a full-time Construction Engineers / Construction Representatives with expertise in process mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation & controls (I&C) systems to support ongoing construction projects at large, operating water and wastewater treatment facilities. This is a full-time, in-person position.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret drawings, plans, specifications, and technical data to ensure construction activities comply with design and regulatory requirements.
• Support the Project Manager or Owner’s Advisor in coordinating the review and response process for submittals, RFIs, field directives, and proposed change orders.
• Perform field inspections during all phases of construction to verify quality, materials, and workmanship.
• Coordinate contractor activities with stakeholders, including engineering teams and third-party entities such as permitting agencies.
• Attend construction meetings (progress meetings, schedule reviews, coordination sessions) to monitor status and resolve field issues.
• Assist with documentation, reporting, and communication of construction progress and issues.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong understanding of construction principles, methods, materials, and safety practices related to water/wastewater infrastructure.
• Knowledge of process mechanical, electrical, and I&C systems in operating treatment facilities.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and testing reports.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound engineering judgments in the field.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interfacing with contractors, engineers, and owner representatives.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong analytical abilities.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a project team.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program and a minimum of 8 years of experience on multi-discipline construction projects.
• Experience working at large, complex, operating water or wastewater treatment facilities.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.
• Experience with AutoDesk applications and engineering calculation software preferred.

Compensation

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
