Position Purpose

The graphic design intern is part of our marketing department team focused on branded educational entities like Sotheby’s Institute of Art, The School of The New York Times, City Football Leadership Institute, and Condé Nast College. The position reports to the graphic designer at BrandEd with significant art direction and leadership from Global Head of Creative and input from the account manager of each school and the digital marketing team. This role will help create impactful advertising, print collateral, signage and digital/web design that is exciting and fresh yet respectful of each brand’s guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following, but the individual will also be expected to perform all the duties necessary, which are customarily performed by a person holding this position. Other duties may be assigned.

The Graphic Design Intern’s overall duties focus on the creation of assets based on direction from the art director for all BrandEd schools as well as for BrandEd itself. Duties include:

  • Understand and interpret project requirements, design briefs, concepts, and brand guidelines
  • Use various techniques to create drafts, concept visualizations and prototypes
  • Produce final design solutions (like logos, banners, interfaces, ads, animations, collateral, email graphics)
  • Working from templates to update existing design files with new copy and images
  • Manage multiple projects with different timelines
  • Not required but a plus: Understand the technical aspects of printing and submitting materials for print
  • Interface with vendors (printers, illustrators, photographers, videographers)
  • Help organize and manage photo assets and design files
  • Take on special design tasks (e.g. animation, color correction)
  • Be on site for photo / video shoots
  • Use feedback from other designers and marketing colleagues to improve work

The Graphic Design Intern should have the following knowledge and abilities:

  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Figma, Canva
  • Familiarity with design techniques and current trends in both the print and digital/web worlds
  • Understanding of visual elements (layout, grids, type and fonts)
  • Illustration ability, motion graphics, or video experience a plus
  • Experience with web tools like Webflow a plus
  • Ability to work within a brand style guide
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Ability to manage long-form publication designs like catalogs, annual reports and magazines
  • Time management and multitasking abilities
  • Creativity skills and problem-solving aptitude
  • Demonstrate professionalism and diplomacy in interpersonal relationships
  • Support and embrace diversity and inclusiveness
  • Ability to be present in the office
  • Regular weekday (Monday-Friday) attendance/availability is required during core business hours

Education, Work Experience and/or Licensure
  • 1 year of experience and high school degree or some college
  • Portfolio required

Language Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written command of the English language
