Position Purpose and Summary The Maryland Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC) is a community-based program that provides free counseling, information and technical assistance to adults and youth interested in going to college or other postsecondary schools. Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director, the MEOC Counselor I is primarily responsible for recruiting high school students to provide direct counseling services via individual and group guidance, counseling sessions, researching and advising of various opportunities within specific areas such as financial aid, scholarship, higher education, college admissions, and providing periodic workshops for participants.
Duties and Responsibilities •Recruitment and case management of an assigned caseload as outlined by grant requirements.
•Provides guidance and counseling to all assigned participants.
•Develops and implements recruitment strategies and activities designed to involve students in MEOC activities.
•Identifies and selects target high schools for the MEOC program participation.
•Maintains efficient complete case management files on all assigned participants.
•Provides clients, individuals, and groups, with information concerning higher education and career opportunities.
•Assists clients in the identification of and application to appropriate postsecondary educational programs.
•Assists clients in the identification of and application to organizations, educational institutions, and agencies for financial assistance.
•Provides program services to a designated quota of participants each month.
•Places the minimum number of clients assigned in postsecondary educational programs.
•Maintains appropriate records and information necessary to document client eligibility for program services.
•Prepares a year-end report including a summary of services provided and an evaluation of the relationship for all school contacts.
•Submits monthly reports to the Associate Director and Director, stating contacts, progress, and outcomes in meeting recruitment goals.
•Participates with professional development to remain current in relevant.
•Other duties as designated by the Associate Director and Director.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Abilities and Skills)•Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology or a related area. Master's degree preferred.
•One (1) to three (3) years of experience in an organization, school or program that serves socially, economically, and educationally disadvantaged populations.
•Must have specific knowledge and demonstrate commitment to the advancement of socially, economically, and educationally disadvantaged populations.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Word Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint).
•Proficiency with Blumen software (preferred).
•Knowledge and use of virtual platforms (i.e., Zoom, Teams, WebEx, etc.).
•Relocation assistance not available. Must reside within a 50-mile radius of National Headquarters within six (6) months of start date.
•Proof of comprehensive COVID-19 vaccination required.

Salary Description
