VA North Texas Health Care System Mental Health Service (VANTHCS MHS) offers a comprehensive range of mental health services, including general adult psychiatry, geriatrics, substance abuse, trauma, psychosocial rehabilitation, homeless programs, peer support, opiate replacement, intensive community mental health recovery, vocational rehab, domiciliary programs, and inpatient services. Active research areas include addiction psychiatry, PTSD, mood disorders, and homelessness. Clinical training is available for medical students, residents, fellows, psychologists, social workers, and nurses. The facility collaborates with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and other local institutions.
Provide psychiatric consultation to inpatient units and the Emergency Department. Must be skilled in general, psychosomatic, and emergency psychiatry, managing a broad range of clinical problems such as PTSD, mood, anxiety, psychotic disorders, substance use, delirium, and psychiatric manifestations of medical illnesses. The psychiatrist will offer treatment recommendations to residents, interns, and medical students, performing all consultative services as a board-certified psychiatrist. Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team is essential. ABPN board certification is required as the incumbent will also provide clinical recommendations to trainees at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Proficiency in clinical psychiatric activities, evidenced by state licensure, completed residency, and ABPN certification. Licenses must be full and unrestricted. Candidates must be fluent in English and able to verify their skills and licensure. Continuing Medical Education (CME) or Certified Education Units (CEU) are required, with mandatory courses completed by September 30th each fiscal year. Preferred experience includes Buprenorphine certification, experience with methadone and clozapine prescribing, and fellowship in consult liaison psychiatry.
