Robert Half Permanent Placement is excited to partner with an innovative Steel Fabricator in Olean, NY on their search for a Purchasing Manager. This is a Direct Hire in-office role with a starting salary of $120,000 - $130,000 and a comprehensive benefits package. This role focuses on the procurement and sourcing of steel and related materials. The ideal candidate will display a savvy understanding of both industry and suppliers and will also be responsible for procurement of consumables, tools, equipment, and other items critical to steel fabrication.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Oversee procurement of steel, materials, consumables, tools, and equipment to support fabrication and production operations
• Develop and implement strategic purchasing plans to ensure timely, cost-effective, and high-quality acquisitions
• Source, evaluate, and select reliable suppliers while negotiating contracts, pricing, and delivery terms to optimize value
• Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, conducting regular performance reviews focused on quality, reliability, and responsiveness
• Collaborate with accounting, production, engineering, and project management teams to align purchasing activities with operational and financial goals
• Manage and mentor the purchasing department, fostering professional development and operational efficiency
• Monitor inventory levels to balance production needs, minimize carrying costs, and prevent stock shortages
• Track market trends, ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and ethical sourcing standards, and drive continuous improvement in procurement performance

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Purchasing Manager within the steel fabrication industry required
• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field required
• Strong knowledge of steel materials, manufacturing processes, and ability to interpret technical drawings
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and advanced Excel
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Analytical and data-driven decision-maker with knowledge of compliance standards; CPM or CPSM certification preferred
