Job Description

Foster Garvey PC, one of the Pacific Northwest's leading law firms, is seeking an experienced Senior BD Specialist to help the firm’s lawyers build their practices. This role will report to the BD Manager and support attorneys in deepening and expanding client relationships and securing new clients. With guidance from the BD Manager and Department Head, the Senior Specialist will help shape initiatives to support the firm’s business development efforts. Depending on the candidate’s background and experience, the role may lead or co-lead business development efforts for approximately half of the firm’s practice group.

The successful candidate will bring experience working directly with practitioners in law firms or other professional services firms and be comfortable advising on and implementing BD efforts. The candidate should have experience developing new initiatives, building attorney service and advisory relationships, and driving growth in a firm’s key practice and industry groups. It will be very helpful to have had experience writing strong proposals and RFP responses that capture what makes the firm the best choice to support the client for a particular engagement. The role requires an eye for detail, strategic thinking, flexibility and an ability to take direction from attorneys while still complying with firm standards. Experience from the legal sector or professional services industry (Accounting, Engineering, PR, Consulting) is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Help lawyers bring in work and help practice group and industry team leaders lead their groups and teams efficiently. This will require learning about lawyers’ practices and their BD goals and strengths.
  • Build relationships with lawyers to serve as a go-to resource for the BD and marketing needs of assigned practice group and industry team leaders and principals.
  • Develop and maintain firm databases including CRM, experience management and others as required.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications Specialist to craft marketing collateral for both practice groups and industry teams.
  • Work with the in-house research team to provide research and reporting that helps hone strategies to increase market share in key industries and bring in more work from specific clients.
  • Attend and present regularly on marketing and business development initiatives at practice group meetings.
  • Develop pitch decks, capabilities overviews, proposals and RFP responses, minimizing attorney time required while producing high-quality first drafts. Collaborate with other team members as needed.
  • Advise on communications and messaging to help ensure the firm, practice groups, industry teams and individual attorneys are highlighted in a manner aligning with firm and individual branding strategies. Work collaboratively with marketing team members and individual attorneys and practice groups to hone or develop personal brands.
  • Collaborate with marketing team members on practice group events, providing coordination and attending as necessary, depending on event size. Ensure business development goals shape key aspects of events.

Skills:

  • Intellectual curiosity and a strong service ethic, team ethic and work ethic.
  • Strong advocacy writing skills, with the ability to tailor communication to the specific target audience and high standards for copywriting, editing and proofreading.
  • Desire and ability to learn more about assigned practice groups and industry teams in order to maximize value provided to attorneys and grow in your role.
  • Proficient in or able to quickly learn CRM systems and other business development and marketing tools.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all attorneys, marketing and business development team members, and other staff.
  • Proactive and responsive.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or a related field.
  • Three to five years’ experience in marketing or business development in a professional services firm.

Perks:
