Job Description

FORKLIFT OPERATOR / PALLET SORTER - Odessa, TX

We are seeking a Forklift Operator with heavy-lifting experience to join our Odessa, TX team, working inside the Family Dollar Distribution Center. If you have 1+ years warehouse & forklift experience, are comfortable with heavy lifting, have a strong work ethic and a desire to learn, a Forklift position with CHEP could be a great fit!

Position Purpose:

As a Forklift Operator with a strong emphasis on safety, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a forklift to supply and retrieve pallets or materials within the facility. Your role involves making decisions to optimize material movement and contribute to the overall efficiency of the team. Additionally, you may be required to perform routine maintenance tasks such as lubricating and replacing liquefied-gas tanks on the forklift. The Sorter position is responsible for sorting pallets by hand for grading. This position involves tandem sorting that requires high collaboration with other team members. May leverage hand tools to remove nails or debris from pallets.

Major/Key Accountabilities:

Material Handling & Forklift Operation:

Operate the forklift to efficiently move pallets and materials throughout the plant facility.

Moves levers and presses pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus. Positions forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded pallets and transports load to designated area.

Conduct inspection of the forklift prior to operating, promptly reporting issues to maintenance team for resolution.

Loading and Unloading:

Assist in loading and unloading trucks with pallets or materials using the forklift, ensuring proper placement and securement of items.

Pallet Sorting

Sort pallets as they are moved from loading docks to sort line/area.

Removes debris and trash from pallets.

Determines which pallets require repairs.

Safety and Compliance:

Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines.

Maintain awareness of pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the work area

Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment daily

Report any safety hazards or concerns to supervisors immediately.

Qualifications & Experience:

Proven experience operating a forklift in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.

Strong understanding of safety regulations and procedures relevant to forklift operations.

Valid Forklift Operator certification/license preferred.

Ability to complete task within a timely manner with high attention to detail.

Ability to understand and communicate information is essential.

Ability to work independently in a team environment is essential.

Working Conditions:

The role involves working in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.

Work requires sitting & standing for long periods of time.

Exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures may occur.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
