After successful completion of the probationary period, employee will receive off probation wage increase.

Summary:

Under direct supervision of the Senior Attorney, researches, writes and analyzes various law sources such as codes and statutes from Federal and State sources, Tribal resolutions, policies and procedures to assist attorneys. 

Responsibilities:

• Research and analyze legal sources such as State, Federal and Tribal codes, ordinances, treaties, constitutions, policies and procedures, to prepare legal documents (memos, briefs, pleadings, appeals, contracts) and assists staff attorneys with cases with an emphasis on probate matters.
• Research issues related to probate, gaming, employment, finance, taxes, Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), bankruptcy, environmental and other matters. Draft memoranda to discuss findings.
• Monitor and provide feedback on all proposed probate related legislation and regulations and other laws as assigned including review of drafts.
• Follow through on all work assigned by Attorneys and Chief Counsel.
• Draft appropriate case summaries, letters/correspondence, pleadings and memorandums with regular updates provided to attorneys.
• Maintain copies of probate decisions, Oneida Business Committee and General Tribal Council minutes, Tribal resolutions and codes as needed.
• Attend meetings, conference calls, and provide written/verbal reports on essential matters.
• Perform basic secretarial tasks including accurately typing memos, correspondence, reports, forms, notes and answering telephone calls.
• Adhere to department security, quality and professional standards.
• Contribute to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.

Education Requirement - Or A Closely Related Field:

Education with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:

• Certification Program in Paralegal/Legal Assistant
• A Combination of Experience and Education May Be Considered

Credentials :

Essential:

• Driver's License Personal & Tribal Vehicle
• Insurance Required

• Registered Paralegal Certification.

Working conditions:

• Must be able to obtain access to necessary federal databases for tracking probates of Individual Indian Money Accounts and/or individual trust land as soon as possible following hire.

Essential:

• one (1) year of previous experience as a Paralegal

• Knowledge of state and/or tribal probate processes and laws, others laws.

Must be willing and able to obtain additional related education and training.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and adhere to the Nation Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy.

A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.

Must provide a copy of diploma/degree, license, or certification upon employment.
