Job Description

N.E.W. Community Clinic's mission is to provide access to quality, comprehensive, and compassionate healthcare for the underserved in our community. We provide healthcare services including medical, dental, mental healthcare, WIC, and community outreach services to anyone in our community who may be living in poverty or who may be underserved. We take care of people regardless of the ability to pay.

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated Part-Time Primary Care Physician (MD) to join the N.E.W Community Clinic's Healthcare for the Homeless Mobile unit team focused on providing quality medical care to underserved populations, particularly the homeless and residents in shelters and low-income neighborhoods. This position requires a provider who is eager to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals who face significant barriers to healthcare access.

The ideal candidate will have the patience to work with individuals experiencing trauma, while also being empathetic and assertive in ensuring that patients adhere to necessary healthcare protocols. We are looking for someone who can work 8-16 hours a week on the Mobile unit.

Position Summary:

    • Direct Patient Care : Provide comprehensive medical services, including diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for homeless individuals and residents of shelters and low-income communities who may have limited access to healthcare .
    • Diagnose - compare clinical findings, normal and abnormal variations formulating a diagnosis and plan for treatment. Review incoming reports ( e.g. lab, x-ray, EKG) sign, date, and follow-up in a timely manner .
    • Trauma-Informed Care : Utilize trauma-informed practices to assess and treat patients, recognizing the impact of past experiences such as homelessness, abuse, or neglect, and responding with sensitivity and understanding.
    • Planning - identifies assessment findings along with diagnostic strategies and collaborates with the patient on a plan of care in conjunction with prescribing medication in accordance with Wisconsin statute and professional practice guidelines. Arrange referral for patients requiring services not offered at N.E.W. Community Clinic.
    • Quality - comply with the N.E.W. Community Clinic Infection Control plan which includes personally utilizing universal precautions. Ensure compliance by support staff . Participate in peer review, quality assurance, provider meetings, and other clinical meetings. Adhere to Uniform Data Set (UDS) productivity standards and meet at least the minimum requirement.
    • Collaboration - assist in outside medical public relations functions. Participate in staff outreach and off-site health care programs in the N.E.W. Community Clinic service area as assigned by the CEO/Medical Director or designee .
    • Promote the mission of the N.E.W. Community Clinic.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises students in training at N.E.W. Community Clinic as assigned by the Coordinator/CEO/Medical Director or designee. Supervises mid-level practitioners as appropriate (physician assistants and nurse practitioners).

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Experience: Three years' experience preferred
  • Language: Comprehend and use basic language either written or spoken to communicate information and ideals. Bilingual (English/ Spanish) a plus

Preferred Skills

  • Previous EPIC experience a plus
  • Emotional resilience to work with patients facing multiple, often traumatic challenges.
  • Highest level of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to implement trauma-informed care strategies, with a deep understanding of homelessness, addiction, and mental health issues
  • Function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders and vendors.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office software.

Required Credentials, Certification, Licensure

  • Current Wisconsin State Medical License
  • Preferred Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Emergency Medicine or other specialties as needed
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR) or equivalent
